What a 'rice' day

Updated: Dec 10, 2018

The rice terraces of Bali are very green and very rural. The start of the walk is quite steep, and takes you amount a small waterfall, and a cobbled path. As you make your way forward, you come across grand hotels nestled into the forestry, and on the other side of the rivers, abandoned and dilapidated houses. Quite the contrast. But the pathway soon comes out through the trees, into main roads, where you can walk along the paths and see into the fields. The rice terraces themselves are like layers of thin green strips, filled with water and algae, with shoots sticking out from the top. It's the kind of water that probably hosts all sorts of things, leeches, Mosquitos and god knows what else. But the way the earth falls in ridges that seem to move and sway as one in the gentlest breeze is actually rather beautiful. That, and it was just nice to get out and see some of what Bali has to offer.
