The Lively City

Updated: Jun 1, 2018

People in Kathmandu never seem to sleep. It constantly feels like midnight here, with loud rowdy people in the streets, cars driving past honking their horns impatiently, and people slamming large metal doors to shut up shop. We are missing the peace and quiet of Pokhara, and not looking forward to spending the next three days back in Kathmandu.

On the plus side, today we ventured out to grab some more souvenirs for our lived ones back home. Everyone recommended Durbar Square for this jaunt, but having spent the thousand rupees each to get in, we discovered that the things back in Thamel were much more what we were looking for. So we came back to our familiar streets, and bought some really nice gifts. I am especially pleased with some of the things I got my lovely boyfriend, and we had a great time picking out things for our parents too.

All in all, we have found some pretty good things here in Kathmandu, and it really does give you a very different sense of self when you wander through these streets. We just wish it was a little quieter, so that we weren't woken up at 2am by the dogs who sleep out under the stars.
