This is the first attraction we have been to see that didn’t meet my expectations. I thought it would be like a forest of bright green bamboo, stretching out for miles and so tall that it blocked out the sun.
Instead, the bamboo was a pale grey colour and obscured by the hundreds of people gathered to see it. We must have walked along the same small stretch ten times, looking at the little names which had been carved into the stems, and admiring the variety of colourful kimono of the people who teetered past in their wooden shoes.
I hope that tomorrow’s expedition will be better than we had hoped for.
