Trying to fit your entire life for the next five months back into a rucksack is like the world's most difficult game of Tetris. Painstakingly weighing and re-shuffling and weighing again until the 20 kilos of luggage is distributed between hold and check in. And then trying to get said 20 kilos from the accommodation to the airport is itself a colossal challenge when it's almost half of my body weight. But when we get to our destination after a difficult journey, I always feel a sense of achievement, each time it gets a little easier, and we get a little stronger.
The only thing to deal with now we are through security is the sadness at leaving Japan. It has been a bumpy road at times, but also an incredible start to a trip we have planned our entire lives. I have experienced so many new things here, and would love to come back in the future, especially if I get the chance to show my wonderful boyfriend some of the unique and inspirational things Japan has in store for any traveller willing to make the journey. Most travellers go to a selection of common places, Thailand, Bali, Australia, and as much as I am excited to see those places, I am glad we started this journey somewhere that has been a part of the back ground of our lives.
