Pattaya Beach

Updated: Dec 10, 2018

A totally different experience today, and one that left me feeling a little disillusioned with the world. Thailand is famed for its beautiful beaches, so rather than stay in Bangkok, in a stuffy room where the fan only swills the hot air around, we decided to catch the two hour coach to Pataya. However, when the coach dropped us off in the middle if the city and we had job idea how to get to the beach, we knew we were in for an... Interesting day. Climbing up and over the bridge across the road, we were informed that we had to get a motorbike taxi. Yep, that's right. My sister and I, piled on to this tiny death trap and clung in for dear life (although I must say, he was a very good driver and got us there safe and sound without too much of a heart attack)

When we got to the beach, we were met with a tourist town, with loud music, market stalks, high rise buildings on all of the surrounding land, and jet skis peppering the water like plastic bottles on a once beautiful sea. We went to sit in the sand, and I was excited to dip my toes in the sea, and relish the moment of our first beach in this travelling stint. But the moment was short lived as we were never left alone to enjoy it. Every few minutes we were accosted by people selling their wares, who didn't like to take no for an answer, and lingered nearby for the whole time we were there. After about an hour, we gave up and went back, hoping that the beaches further down in Phang Nga remain places of unspoiled beauty.
