I think we have found one of the most stunning places on the planet. Right in the heart of Thailand, surrounded by miles of hills with millions of shades of green trees growing far into the distance, lies Erawan falls. A waterfall with seven tiers of silvery liquid flowing from high in to mountains. At each tier lies a pool where you can swim among the fish, while the butterflies swoop past the flowers nearby, and monkeys sit in the parapet above you, watching curiously as you splash in the cool water.
Climbing up to each new height is a challenge, in the mid day heat, but thoroughly rewarded when you get into the silver-blue lagoon, and see a new fall before you, each more beautiful than the last. At first, it can be a little disconcerting as the fish nip your feet, and some of them are the size of my arm. But you have to be dauntless and jump in, and be brave enough to swim right out under the spray where the water tumbles over the rocks and falls to the pool below it. For sitting here, with the sound of it pounding your ears and the little rays of sunlight that can just be seen through the gaps, is where the magic of the world is hidden from our ordinary lives.
