Soul

I am incredibly excited for what Korea has to offer! We have a few ideas of things we want to see, and a couple of recommendations from our host here, but mostly Korea is a blank canvas with unlimited potential. The people here pronounce their capital city as Soul, and its already becoming obvious that this big city is where beginnings are made. Take today for example, we had no plans, so we decided to take a wander to a nearby park. This reminded me a lot of Japan, so beautiful and so lovely just to have such green spaces in the middle of cities. After a solid 12 hours of travelling, 3 busses, a train and a flight, plus the hectic scramble of trying to cross the road amidst some of the most impatient drivers I have ever seen (my phone came off slightly worse for wear as one corner went straight under the wheel of a car) this garden is a little bit of peace among the madness. The park was not only teeming with the life of tiny caterpillars making a never ending journey across narrow streets, fish swimming right below your feet at the pond in a food expectant frenzy, and fluffy little dogs making a ruckus among the pigeons, it was also full of culture and history, with tales of long ago Kings, and a forest that had stood here way before the buildings began to prop themselves around it. For us, this was a beginning to remember.
